Don DeGrazia (Creative Writing) presented the paper "Sherwood Anderson’s Search for a New Faith" at the Words & Music Festival on Dec. 7.
Karen Irvine (Art + Design, Museum of Contemporary Photography) selected the winners for The Coalition of Photographic Arts' Annual Midwest Juried Photo Exhibition in Milwaukee. The exhibition features 37 Midwestern photographers and will run through Jan. 18, 2014.
Stephen Lacy (Cinema Art + Science), who exhibits artwork under the name Academy Records, had work selected for the 2014 Whitney Biennial in New York City at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
Elio Leturia's (Journalism) design for Banco de Voces, a website he created, was featured in the book Chicago Snapshot 2013, a design retrospective from the American Institute of Graphic Arts.
Tom Mula's (Theatre) play Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol currently has three national productions running, and the New York Times photo spread of Scrooges features photographs from the play (numbers 7, 43 and 49).
Rozell Nesbitt (Humanities, History and Social Sciences) shared his thoughts on Nelson Mandela with CBS Chicago.
Sabina Ott's (A+D) art exhibition, "Ornament," will be on display at the Riverside Arts Center through Jan. 11, 2014.
Marilyn Propp (A+D) and David Jones (Anchor Graphics, A+D) will have a two-person exhibit, "Confluence/Undercurrents," Jan. 9 - Feb. 6, 2014, at Illinois Wesleyan University, with artists' lecture and reception 4 - 6 p.m., Jan. 9. They will also exhibit at Printworks Gallery in Chicago, in "Collaborations II," a group exhibit of works created by artist couples, on Jan. 10 - Feb. 15.
Guy Villa Jr. (A+D) will chair the 21st annual Design Inspiration Weekend for the Society of Typographic Arts on Jan. 24-26, 2014. The event, themed "Rewind / Fast Forward," addresses the issues and practices of design and typography that have or have not changed, why or why not, and how.
