David Berner (Radio) is a finalist in the Chicago Writers Association 2013 Book Awards for his memoir, Any Road Will Take You There: A Journey of Fathers and Sons. Awards will be presented January 18, 2014. 

Kevin Cooper's (Cinema Art + Science) film The Painter, which was shot by Columbia faculty members and students in the Media Production Center, won the Illinois Film Office Shortcuts competition.

Jess Godwin (Theatre) released a music video for her song "Be a Light" on October 16.

Allan Johnston (English) had his poems published in the English journals The Metric and English Chicago Review.

Elio Leturia (Journalism) was a panelist on The Missing Voice on Gender Equality: Time for Men to Speak Up at the 36th National Fulbright Association Conference on October 5 in Washington, D.C. This all-male panel was organized by the Fulbright Association with the support of LeanIn.org and Sheryl Sandberg.

RoseAnna Mueller (HHSS) has been named a Fulbright Senior Specialist Scholar. The program aims to enable a varied group of U.S. scholars and professionals to undertake a Fulbright award.

Audrey Niffenegger (Creative Writing) is partnering with new e-bookstore start-up Zola Books to help "physical bookstores thrive in a digital age."

Howard Sandroff (Audio Arts and Acoustics) was a featured speaker at Humanities Day on October 19 at the University of Chicago. His presentation, The Obsessive Image, explored the connections between his composing work and his work in steel sculpture.  

Jessica Young (Creative Arts Therapies) ran in the Chicago Marathon with LaSalle Team World Vision, which raised $35,500 for charity.
