Faculty, Staff Acknowledgement of Emergency Notification System Required

February 4, 2013

On December 17, 2012, following the tragic events at Newtown, Connecticut, the Department of Campus Safety and Security sent an email to all Columbia College Chicago faculty and staff describing the college's emergency notification system: AlertWave.

The email directed faculty and staff members to IRIS in order to familiarize themselves with this critical system and to listen to the seven critical messages that comprise the notification system. In addition, it was suggested that faculty and staff members to review the recommended emergency protocols that accompany each message.

Following discussions among senior Columbia College Chicago administration, the Office of Campus Safety and Security has been directed to reissue the information concerning the emergency notification system, making it MANDATORY that ALL staff and faculty not only review the emergency information found in IRIS, but acknowledge having read and listened to the emergency messages.

Because of its importance, you are being asked to complete this task by Friday, February 22.

To begin the process, please visit Campus Environment on IRIS and select "AlertWave Emergency Protocol." From there, check the "Acknowledge" box at the bottom of the page and then click the "Submit" button.
