The Art of Giving

November 28, 2012

Those who hope to buy a unique handmade gift for family and friends need to look no further than two events at Columbia College Chicago this holiday season.

ShopColumbia hosts its 4th Annual Holiday Market Dec. 6-8, as it takes over the first floor of 623 S. Wabash Ave. to showcase the work of Columbia College student and alumni artists. A reception with food and beverages kicks off the shopping season on Dec. 6 at 5 p.m., where shoppers will have the opportunity to meet the artists and browse through the offerings of clothing, accessories, fine art, music, housewares, book and paper goods and much more. This year will also feature themed mini-boutiques, themed for the “Art Lover,” “Fashionista,” “Bookworm” and more to help visitors find everything they need for their gift lists.

In conjunction with ShopColumbia, buyers can also explore Art Works in the Hokin Gallery, also located at 623 S. Wabash Ave. Running from Nov. 15 – Dec. 15, Art Works presents another chance to find that special something for that special someone. The gallery show was curated by Columbia students as part of the Hokin Project, an arts management practicum course, providing gallery management, exhibition, curatorial, and design experience for students of all majors. Visitors can buy the work directly off the walls and displays of the Hokin, supporting the emerging talent and young artists of Columbia College. Art Works was organized by Columbia Gallery Management students, promoted by Columbia Entertainment Marketing students, and is another opportunity to view and buy work by Columbia’s talented student body.
