Columbia College Chicago Community Designs Art for the Avenue

September 27, 2012

Tartan Art on the Avenue has taken over Chicago’s famous Michigan Avenue, and Columbia College Chicago students, alumni, and faculty played a part. Alumni Annamarie Buchanan (BA ’04) and Nino Rodriguez (BA ’05), Art + Design faculty member Denise Rush, alumna and Film + Video faculty member Sandi Chapman, and Advertising Art Direction major Taylor Linhart (’13) all participated in the creation and design of seven different golf balls, spread across the city.

Local and national artists were commissioned to paint giant golf balls for Tartan Art on the Avenue, a community art project celebrating the 2012 Ryder Cup. When the public display is done, the golf balls will be auctioned off to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana (RMHC-CNI) and the Illinois PGA Foundation. Columbia College’s involvement with this project began after the college participated in a similar city-wide endeavor last year called “Hearts-a-Bluhm, which benefited Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute.

Throughout the month of September, the super-sized golf balls can be seen on Chicago streets and shops, celebrating the 2012 Ryder Cup. The golf championship will take place September 25-30 at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, IL.
