The Learning Studio Offers New Services for Students

Sept. 13, 2013

What’s new at the Learning Studio for fall 2013?

The Learning Studio offers tutoring, peer academic coaching, supplemental instruction, and other academic support programs serving students seven days a week throughout the semester – plus free popcorn on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons!

Beginning this fall, the following new programs have been added:

The Learning Studio has partnered with Arts Entertainment and Media Management and Fashion Studies to offer Supplemental Instruction (SI) in two new courses: Garment Construction I and Accounting. In addition to these courses, SI provides peer led study sessions for nine other classes with a total of about forty course sections across all three schools of the College, reaching 1200 students! For more information visit: www.colum.edu/si

The Learning Studio has partnered with the Library to offer weekend tutoring in the Library. Tutors from the Writing Center and the Science and Math Learning Center (SMLC) are available to meet with students from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturdays and 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sundays on the 3rd floor in the Library.

SMLC peer tutors also offer walk-in evening tutoring sessions at 731 S. Plymouth Court – Monday thru Wednesday from 7:00 PM – 10:00PM. All Columbia student residents, no matter which residence they live in, are welcome to visit the Plymouth Court location.

Students can also make appointments with Writing Center tutors for online writing tutoring by Skype and email.
