Transfer Initiatives in Academic Affairs
November 14, 2012
In a continuing effort to support students, Interim Provost Louise Love has appointed Keri Walters as Special Assistant to the Provost for Transfer Initiatives. This one-year appointment is a key component in Columbia’s efforts to increase student success and persistence to graduation.
The Transfer Initiative’s goals are 1) to define what “transfer friendly” means at Columbia and to apply it to appropriate academic programs, 2) help prospective students make smart transfer decisions earlier, 3) to build positive, mutually beneficial relationships with strategically chosen 2-year institutions, and 4) to attract and retain more well-prepared transfer students who will then go on to graduate from Columbia.
In the upcoming year, Keri will work with faculty and staff in all of the schools and the Offices of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to evaluate course equivalencies, to renew relationships with two-year institutions, and to position and evaluate transfer requirements in individual programs.
