Carter Signs American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment
Columbia College Chicago President Warrick Carter has signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), thereby adding Columbia to a list of more than 650 higher education institutions to make this pledge toward climate neutrality. And on October 24, the college will mark the Global Day of Action with activities from noon to 2.

Saturday, November 7 is our Fall Open House. The Admissions Office is expecting close to 8,000 prospective students and family members to visit us and see for themselves what makes Columbia so extraordinary. Attracting students who belong here is, of course, our goal, and having as many faculty and staff present to help us deliver our message is vital. We invite you to see and hear how we position our college and to learn what prospective students hear about Columbia.

Columbia to Host Creativity Conference; Faculty Proposals Encouraged
Claiming Creativity: Art Education in Cultural Transition will take place on campus April 21-24, 2010. The overarching theme is to reposition creativity not only as a driver for our economies, but also for art making, for transformational processes, and for social and cultural development and change. Faculty are encouraged to submit proposals for this innovative symposium.

Columbia Will Restrict Illegal Downloading on Campus
In compliance with federal law, Columbia has begun monitoring Internet traffic across its network to identify peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing activity. The college will locate and disable Internet access for computers and users downloading content illegally. Internet access will be restored when the student/faculty/staff member agrees to abide by Columbia's Network and Computer Use Policy.

Initial Retention Discussion Group Meeting Draws 70+
The Retention Discussion Group, a joint effort of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs, will meet regularly to examine how the college’s programs and services can better support new students, both in the classroom and beyond. The first meeting was held on Monday, October 26. Find out what was discussed.

Nami Mun Wins Whiting Writers' Award
Nami Mun, assistant professor of Fiction Writing at Columbia College Chicago, has been awarded the prestigious Whiting Writers’ Award for her 2009 novel Miles from Nowhere.

Whose Destiny Is It to Be the 2010 Manifest Designer? You Decide.
Sixty-one Columbia students submitted proposals to compete for the honor of being chosen the Manifest 2010 student designer. Five have been chosen to have their proposals submitted to a public vote. One will win. You will pick that winner.

Columbia Projects Receive $90,000 to Support Emerging News Sources
Columbia College Chicago is among a dozen recipients to share $500,000 that the Chicago Community Trust has pledged to support the development of emerging local news sources.
