Parents of New Students

The Office of New Student Programs provides services to assist all new undergraduate students, both academically and socially, during their transition into the Columbia College creative community. Engagement begins with Orientation and carries through to a range of First Year Experience Programs that occur throughout the school year. We invite parents to partner with us to encourage their students to begin taking advantage of all Columbia has to offer as soon as they arrive. Explore our website to find out about Orientation, Weeks of Welcome, New Student Leadership Academy, and a variety of other initiatives managed or supported by our office. We hope you will make yourself familiar with these engagement opportunities and encourage your student to participate in them.

Create ... Ritual
In our society we have all sorts of rituals. At sporting events there are rituals like signing "Take me out to the ball game" during the seventh inning stretch at Wrigley Field. For St. Patrick's Day, the Chicago River is dyed green... These are all examples of rituals that occur in our larger community of Chicago.
