Making Music Together
In preparation for their upcoming visit to the Pescara Conservatory of Music, the Columbia College Chicago Faculty Jazz Quintet will perform twice in the Midwest before taking the stage at the Bussinjazz Festival in Italy on July 8. The Quintet performs at Trio's Restaurant and Jazz Club in South Bend, Ind. on June 29 and at 80 River Oaks Circle in Calumet City, Ill. on July 6.
The faculty members’ trip is part of the Music Department at Columbia College Chicago’s collaboration with the Pescara Conservatory of Music. The partnership began with a visit by the Pescara Jazz Ensemble for performances and workshops in Chicago in April. In return, the Columbia College Chicago Faculty Jazz Quintet will appear at the festival and will present a one-week big-band jazz workshop for European jazz students. One of the goals of this new partnership is to create an exchange program of workshops and concerts for faculty and students in Italy and the United States.
The Quintet, which will perform at the Bussinjazz Festival July 8, the day they arrive in Italy, includes Scott Hall on trumpet, Geof Bradfield on saxophone, Bill Boris on guitar, Dan Anderson on bass and Tom Hipskind playing drums. Columbia College Jazz students John Lauler, Mat Roberts, Justin Kopczynski, and Conor Fortune will accompany the faculty to attend the workshops in Italy.
