LAS Selects Winners of Two New Faculty Awards

Dean Deborah H. Holdstein and the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences are pleased to announce the awardees of the inaugural School of Liberal Arts and Sciences/Ellen Stone Belic Institute for the Study of Women and Gender in the Arts and Media Faculty Fellowship and the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences Faculty Awards for Scholarly and Creative Achievement.

Established under the leadership of Dean Holdstein, the LAS Faculty Awards were created to recognize and reward completed and promulgated work of full-time faculty members in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The LAS/Institute Fellowship award was developed by Dean Holdstein and Jane M. Saks, formerly Executive Director of the Institute. The inaugural awardees are as follows:

LAS/Institute Spring 2014 Faculty Fellows:

Dr. Kate Hamerton, Associate Professor of History in the Department of Humanities, History, and Social Sciences, for her book project, The Appetites of the Soul: Taste and Human Nature in Old Regime France.

Dr. Ames Hawkins, Associate Professor in the Department of English, for her book and installation project, “Love Letters: e, l, o, r, s, t, v.

Dr. Erin McCarthy, Associate Professor of History in the Department of Humanities, History, and Social Sciences, for her book and oral history research project, Re-Examining the Feminist Practice of Oral History.

LAS Faculty Awards for Scholarly and Creative Achievement:

Dr. Rojhat Avsar, Assistant Professor of Economics in the Department of Humanities, History, and Social Sciences, in recognition of On the Pro-Social Security Rhetoric (Forum for Social Economics, Vol. 45, Spring 2012).

Lisa DiFranza, Lecturer, First-Year Seminar, in recognition of her theatrical project, The Living News: Shelter.

Dr. Azar Khosravani, Associate Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Science and Mathematics, in recognition of her mathematical research, publications, and presentations.

Dr. Weihua Li, Assistant Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Science and Mathematics, in recognition of her mathematical research, publications, and presentations.

Dr. RoseAnna Mueller, Associate Professor of Spanish, Italian, and Humanities in the Department of Humanities, History, and Social Sciences, in recognition of Teresa de la Parra: A Literary Life (UK: Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2012).

Dr. Jeff Schiff, Professor of Professional Writing, Literature, and Poetry in the Department of English, in recognition of That hum to go by (MAMMOTH Books, 2012).
