"Why did a big corporation give us all this money?"
Hundreds of Columbia College students waited in a line that formed outside of the 1104 S. Wabash campus building on a balmy December 3, 2013 in anticipation of the advance screening of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues followed by a Q&A with their comedic hero moderated by Associate Professor Ron Falzone.
Adam McKay, writer, producer, and director of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, was welcomed with a standing ovation from an uproarious packed house after a side-splitting viewing of the movie.
Almost ten years since Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, McKay mused that the cast aged extremely well and everyone stayed in shape. He kept the audience laughing telling stories about the cameos, the gang fight, and the Winnebago crash. The hardest joke to cut was naming the shark, "How about Crackers? How about Mittens?"
A funny moment included a student from the audience asking "Will you sign my chest?" McKay obliged and the student came to the stage and laid on his back for the autograph.
A student asked about interning and McKay mentioned Gary Sanchez Productions. He also talked about the user-submitted comedy video site Funny or Die both in partnership with Will Ferrell.
The last question of the night was almost bypassed until the student yelled out "It's my birthday," which was followed by everyone in the theater singing Happy Birthday and another standing ovation.
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues opens on December 18, 2013.
