Jack C. Newell (BA '04) recently wrapped Chicago production on Open Tables, with a crew comprised of several Columbia College alums and students. This is Newell's second narrative and third feature film. Open Tables ensemble cast includes some of the top improv talent in the world: TJ Jagodowski, David Pasquesi, and Joel Murray.

Set within the walls of the trendiest Chicago restaurants and behind the closed doors of dinner parties, Open Tables explores colliding stories of love lost, love found and the importance of a good main course. Featuring Beth Lacke (currently seen in Big Lake, Big City at Looking Glass Theater), Desmin Borges (Compliance), Keith Kupferer (The Dark Knight), and Chicago Improv mainstays, Colleen Doyle, Linda Orr, and Kate Duffy.

Newell brought on several department heads and key crew that are Columbia College alums including, Cinematographer Stephanie Dufford (BA '07), Production Designer/Producer Matt Hyland (BA '10), Script Supervisor/Producer Steven Tobiasz (BA '11), Editor/Post Production Supervisor Jill DiBiase (BA '08), Sound Mixer Scott Palmer (BA '10) as well as Caroline Neff (BA '07), the romantic lead in the film.

“It’s cool to be in the position of hiring these folks knowing that they are bringing their enthusiasm and knowledge to your film and because of that, the film will be better. You hear stories about how some productions abuse crew, but we’ve tried to create an environment where they can do their best work, so I can do my best work, and we can all make the best film possible. The take away for them is participating in a film they have ownership in and that’s pretty exciting," said Newell about working with a crew made up of a majority of recent Columbia College alums and current students.

Now that Chicago production is wrapped, shooting will continue in September with a skeleton crew traveling to Paris, France. The film is scheduled for completion in late 2013 with a 2014/15 festival season.
