Lead Actor Directs Students
F&V adjunct faculty member John Mossman shares the actor's process from a director's perspective with his students.
Through May 5, 2013, Mossman is in the lead role of Shannon in The Night of the Iguana at The Artistic Home. As a director, he stresses the importance of knowing the actor's process because of
the vocabulary and the deeply personal and challenging skills needed
from an actor to help bring the story to its most vivid life.
Mossman shares, "Students
direct each other in class exercises, and the creativity and growth that
comes from that is not just evident but sometimes flat-out inspiring. Students also have the opportunity to work with terrific Chicago actors dying to work with talented young
filmmakers." He continues, "I'm often surprised at how even the most experienced actors
in town simply want the chance to collaborate with a director whose
skill at their craft is partly due to their understanding of the actor's
craft as well."
