MFA Candidate Chris Marnach wins Glimmer Train award

MFA Christopher Marnach’s short story “Death Week at the Funeral Card Company” has been announced as the first place winner of Glimmer Train’s Short Story Award for New Writers. The story, following a series of unusual deaths which break a dry spell at a company which makes cards for funeral homes, was developed in Marnach’s fiction writing classes with full-time faculty members Sam Weller and Joe Meno. The award is open only to writers whose fiction has not appeared, nor is scheduled to appear, in any print publication with a circulation over 5,000; and includes in its prize package publication in Glimmer Train. Marnach’s story will be published in 2014.
