Andrew Causey Presents at 111th Annual American Anthropological Association Meeting

Andrew Causey (HHSS) presented his paper, "Painting What I See, in Order to See," at the 111th Annual American Anthropological Association's meetings in San Francisco, California, in November 2012. The presentation used images he created during 1994-95 fieldwork research in Sumatra, Indonesia, as the basis for investigating the use of drawing as a legitimate method in gathering ethnographic information. Causey also co-edited (with Keyan Tomaselli of University of Kwa-Zulu-Durban) a special issue of Critical Arts: South-North Cultural and Media Studies in September 2012 about researchers as tourists and travlers. His article “Travel to a Place both Sad and Cute” looks at the Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, Missouri, both as a site of spiritual pilgrimage and hope, as well as a space of transformation and consumerism.
