Maha Gorgi Hired as On-Air Talent at WYRB, 106.3 FM in Rockford, IL

Proving that being versatile is the key to longevity in the industry, Maha Gorgi (B.A. '11) is not only a Sales Assistant at Matrix Media Chicago, but can now add on-air talent to her resume, as she has been hired to host weekends at urban contemporary station WYRB, 106.3 FM (Power 106) in Rockford, IL.

A motivating factor for Maha to obtain an on-air position was the encouragement from industry contacts she had met through her internship and Columbia. Maha had this advice: "I cannot stress how important it is to make sure people know who you are and what your name is. As a matter of fact, that is exactly how I heard about the on-air position at WYRB. I stayed in touch with people I've worked with through internships or professors/mentors at Columbia, and also with industry professionals, that would guest lecture at Columbia."

Maha's time spent at WCRX-FM, Columbia's college radio station, was a contributing factor in preparing her for the position. "WCRX helped me become comfortable with my voice and it allowed me to take control of all aspects of my broadcast from show preparation and taking callers to being my own producer. I've been able to use these skills I acquired at Columbia College towards my job as an on-air personality at Power 106."
