STORYWOODS
F&V MFA Candidate Mary Horan's short documentary Storywoods is screening in New York November 14 and 16 at the Doc NYC Film Festival and the Big Mini Media Festival.
Storywoods was made in Documentary II. It is a short portrait documentary on Rebecca Dudley, a
miniature diorama artist and photographer. It interweaves between
vérité and archival film footage of Dudley as a small child in the
1960's and chronicles her inspiration for building her miniature world. She spent several
years building an elaborate world known as Storywoods piece by piece.
She uses this scenery, drawn from her childhood home in Durham, New
Hampshire, to capture snapshots of stories she writes.
Horan first met her documentary subject at the Evanston Art Center in a photography class she had to take as a graduate requirement. She was intrigued by Dudley's artwork because she photographed her diorama characters and scenery for all the assignments.
The film has screened at the New Hampshire Film Festival, Northampton Independent Film Festival, Chicago International Reel Shorts Film Festival and DocUtah.
