Lunch with Directors

Students had two chances to have lunch on campus with visiting directors from around the world screening their films at the 48th Chicago International Film Festival.

An informal opportunity to talk about process, production, and pizza, students asked questions and received advice from directors fresh out of film school in addition to those with an established filmography.

F&V faculty member Mehrnaz Saeed-Vafa led the conversation on, Tuesday, October 16, with Travis and Christine Fine, Any Day Now, Adel Yaraghi, Meeting Leila, and Michael Mayer, Out in the Dark. They exchanged stories about the road each took to making a feature film on their terms.

On Tuesday, October 23, F&V faculty member Zoran Samardzija led the conversation with Raul Fuentes, Everybody’s Got Somebody...Not Me, Terence Nance, An Oversimplification of Her Beauty, Nawaf Al-Janahi, Sea Shadow, and Adrian Saba, The Cleaner. The importance of directing actors and using whatever resources you have to make a feature films was discussed.
