Sarah Zwinklis Hired as Distribution Assistant at WFMT, 98.7 FM

After traveling to four different countries in six months, Sarah Zwinklis (B.A. '12) returned to Chicago to begin her radio career as a full-time employee at legendary classical music station, WFMT, 98.7 FM.

According to Sarah, "All of the courses I took at Columbia have enabled me to feel confident in my current position. I had an interest in production from learning the basics in Radio Production I: Intro. Additionally, being part of the Covering International Festivals: Iceland course, where we worked on an hour long documentary for the Iceland Airwaves Festival, made me learn how to manage time and work efficiently."

Besides visiting Iceland, Sarah also visited London, Ireland, and Australia. At her last stop in Australia, Sarah had an extended stay in an attempt to secure a job in Australian radio. Though she didn't land one, she did learn a very valuable lesson. "Australia is where I learned how to be persistent and take rejection. I surrounded myself with great connections in Chicago, but once I left those connections behind, I could honestly see what it was like to fend for myself. It was scary thinking I had failed, but it was a good learning experience. I will never take my relationships and connections for granted. They are a necessity."
