WCRX FM wins New York Festivals award

On Monday June 23rd 2014 it was announced that Columbia College Chicago's WCRXFM won the Silver Radio Medal in the category of "Best Student Radio Station". The announcement was made during the annual awards ceremony in midtown Manhattan. 

In what was a team effort of the Columbia College Radio Department, WCRX/Columbia College staff and the student staff WCRXFM won for it's "WCRX On-Air showcase" an array of everything WCRX does. This includes (but is not limited to) public service to the community, live news and sports coverage, it's annual Holly Jolly Trolley Food Drive Initiative, diversity in programming and grassroots efforts true to the medium. WCRX is the only college radio station in the United States to receive an award in the category of "Best Student Radio Station". This is the third awards ceremony Columbia College Chicago's WCRX has excelled in this year. Earlier this year WCRX won 2 Intercollegiate Broadcast System student awards and 1 student Communicator award.

For over thirty years, New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards has dedicated itself to creating a brand that stands for creativity and prestige.


The competition honors content in all lengths and forms and it celebrates the exceptional and innovative programs being created on all continents. Dedicated to the radio industry, the institution's Grand Jury is made up of 100 directors, producers, journalists, writers, actors, creative directors, composers, on-air talent, and programming executives who are all award-winners themselves.  They are actively involved in what is being made today around the globe. That mix of perspectives is one of the strengths of this jury process to determine the World’s Best Radio Programs™
