Dominic Pacyga Quoted in New Republic Story

Dominic Pacyga (HHSS) was quoted in a February 1 story in The New Republic. The story, “Identity Politics in Chicago Takes a Surprising Turn,” reflects on how a recent remapping of the city’s wards by the Chicago City Council will benefit the Polish community, despite that the community’s political clout has waned over the years. This decrease in political influence, the story says, is largely because of fewer Poles emigrating to Chicago, and because of younger generations settling in the suburbs, abandoning the Polish language, and embedding in less concentrated communities. “The Poles just can’t put the numbers on the street that they used to,” Dr. Pacyga said in the story. The new Chicago ward map goes into effect in 2015.
