The opening of the exhibition will be the kick-off 2011 Alumni Weekend!
The Spring 2011, Alumni on 5 asked artists to discuss their own necessary fictions as expressed in their art. We explored personal histories and which facts and which fictions we reveal and conceal, as a means of existence.
The Fall 2011 exhibition will explore the rawness of self-portraiture and self-exploration when it is approached with honesty, both brutal and beautiful; our necessary non-fictions.
What is a self-portrait and how can you use it to express revolution of self?
What happens when everything you thought you once knew has been altered;
when the necessary fictions melt away?
What does this change look like?
How do you express this revolution/revelation, in your art?
As always, we are interested in submissions of individual pieces or series of works in all media which represent the diversity and creativity of Columbia College Chicago alumni work and, which addresses the them of “Revolution of Self”. All submissions must be made electronically and received by midnight August 14, 2011.
